Tupuxuara Leonadrii
Hello, I’m Tupuxuara Leonadrii “Leo”
(Too-pu-SHWA-ra Lay-o-NAR-dee-eye)
Olá! We’re the Tupuxuara Leonadrii trio, Leo, Nardi, and Tux. We lived during the Albian Age of the Early Cretaceous Period, about 112 million years ago. In 1988, fossils were discovered in Brazil. Because we can fly, we’re pterosaurs, which is what they call us, flying reptiles. We love the water and have lived in mostly marine environments. Do you like oceans, lakes, and rivers?
Take a look at our heads. We have an impressive crest, which is not only cool to look at but may have helped us steer during flight, fight off predators, and communicate with our fellow Tupuxuaras.
FUN FACTS
Sharp Beak - We use our beaks to catch prey
5 Specimens - Since 1988, five specimens of Tupuxuara have been discovered.
50-100 pounds - We are a little on the small side, which makes it easier to fly.
What Did I Eat?
We are piscivores, which means we are carnivorous animals that mainly eat fish. Do you like fish?
Did You Know?
Their wings were long and likely adapted for gliding.
