Triceratops
Hello, I’m Triceratops Tessa
( trai·seh·ruh·taaps)
Hello friends, I’m Triceratops Tessa! As you may have guessed, I get my name from my horns, which are called frills. My name means “three-horned face”. I lived about 65 million years ago in the Late Cretaceous period. My large head with my frills could get as large as 8 feet long and 7 feet wide.
My fossils were discovered in North America. Most scientists believe I foraged on lots of plants, about 300 pounds a day! How many pounds of plants and vegetables do you eat in a day?
FUN FACTS
30 feet long - From my front frill to my tail, I’m about as long as a bus.
800 teeth - In my large mouth, I have 800 teeth! As I lose them, they will replace themselves. Can you imagine brushing 800 teeth every night?
16,000 pounds - That’s almost as much as two elephants. I need a big body to hold up my massive head.
What Did I Eat?
We are herbivores, which means we love munching on plants and shrubs. All that foliage makes us big and strong. We are the largest of all the horned dinosaurs.
Did You Know?
Scientific evidence shows that T-rex dinosaurs ate Triceratops. This discovery was made by examining the T-rex droppings, which contained bones from the Triceratops frill.
