Quetzalcoatlus
Hello, I’m Quetzalcoatlus Quinn
(ket·suhl·kow·at·luhs)
Howdy there, friends! I’m Quetzalcoatlus Quinn. My name means “feathered serpent God” in the Ancient language of the Aztecs. You see, I’m one of the largest known flying animals ever discovered. I lived about 65 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period.
In fact, I’m technically not really a dinosaur. I’m a pterosaur because that’s what they call us when we can fly. My fossils were first discovered in 1971 in Texas. Since then, more fossils have been found in Texas, Montana, and New Mexico.
FUN FACTS
36 feet - That’s how long my wingspan is from wing to wing. How long is your wingspan?
16 feet tall - Even though I can fly, I can also walk on the ground using my wings for feet.
6 feet - My long beak could grow to over 6 feet long. But don’t worry, I don’t have any teeth.
What Did I Eat?
We are carnivorous birds. Mostly, I ate small animals from the ground.
Did You Know?
Quetzalcoatlus could fly 80 miles per hour!
