Giganotosaurus

Hola! I’m Giganotosaurus Gustavo

(jig-a-not-o-saw-rus)

Hola, friends! I am Giganotosaurus, but you can call me Gustavo. My name means "Giant Southern Lizard," and that is because I was discovered way down south in the beautiful country of Argentina! I lived during the Cretaceous Period, about 90 million years ago. I have a lot of pride in being from the south, and I love being one of the biggest stars in the dinosaur world. While the T-rex gets a lot of attention, I like to remind him that I’m actually a little bit bigger! Look for me near Jurassic Headquarters.

FUN FACTS

  • I am muy grande (very big)! I measured about 44 feet long—that is longer than a standard city bus!

  • I stood about 12 feet tall, giving me a great view of the land.

  • I weighed around 8 tons, which is heavy, but I was still pretty fast on my feet!

  • What Did I Eat?
I am a biped, which means I walk on my two back legs, just like you! But unlike the Brachiosaurus, which eats plants, I am a carnivore. I eat meat! My jaw is enormous and filled with sharp, serrated teeth that are 8 inches long—that’s about the size of a banana! But don't worry, I’m well-fed and happy to just pose for photos today.

  • Did You Know?
Even though I am bigger than the famous T-rex, I am not the biggest meat-eater ever found. That title goes to the Spinosaurus! I fall right in the middle—bigger than a T-rex, but smaller than a Spinosaurus. But I like to think I have the best smile!
