Euoplocephalus

Hello! I’m Euoplocephalus Alcides

(you-op-lo-sef-a-lus) (Al-sci-dees)

Hello, my friends! I’m Euoplocephalus Alcides, also known as the Design-A-Saurus at The Island. A talented young artist named Hadley W. created my unique design and gave me my name.

My dinosaur name is a bit of a tongue-twister—Euoplocephalus means "Well-Armored Head." That is because, normally, my head and body are covered in thick armor to keep me safe. I lived right here in North America during the Cretaceous Period, about 70 million years ago.

FUN FACTS

  • I’m a Tank: I have bony horns on my head, large spikes along my body, and bony plates hidden in my skin. I am basically a walking tank!

  • Watch the Tail: I have a heavy, club-like tail that I could swing to scare away any T-rex that might approach. But today, I’m just wagging it because I’m happy to see you!

  • Size: I grew to be about 20 feet long and weighed 2 tons—that’s as heavy as a car, but much more colorful!

  • What Did I Eat?

I am a quadruped (I walk on four legs) and a herbivore. I don't eat meat, just plants! I have a horny, toothless beak that I use to snip off leaves, and tiny peg-like teeth in my cheeks to chew them up. It’s a peaceful life munching on greens all day.

  • Did You Know?

Even though I am covered in armor on the top, I have a secret soft spot—my belly! My tummy is the only part of me that isn't protected by heavy bone. But I don’t mind, because it means I can still enjoy a good belly rub!
