Hello, I’m Citipati Callie
(chit-i-puh-tih)
Hello there, I’m Citipati Callie! My name means “funeral pyre lord,” which sounds very confusing, I know. You see, I was named after a Buddhist deity known as the “protector of cemeteries”. My fossils were found in a nesting position, protecting my eggs much like the Citipati god appeared in Tibetan art, watching over the cemetery.
I lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous Period, over 75 million years ago.
FUN FACTS
I’m emu-sized, reaching 9 feet in length and weighing about 200 pounds.
Fossil find - I was discovered in the 1990s in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia.
What Did I Eat?
I’m an oveiraptorid theropod dinosaur. It means I’m a bird-like dino and I’m a herbivore and omnivore. I like to eat lizards and fish, but sometimes I also eat plants.Did You Know?
When discovered, evidence of the Citipati’s nesting helped link non-avian dinosaurs and birds.
