Independence Day is always a massive celebration in the Great Smoky Mountains, but this summer is historic. From July 3 to July 5, 2026, The Island in Pigeon Forge is rolling out the red, white, and blue for a landmark weekend honoring America’s 250th Independence Day.

We are packing the property with brand-new experiences, live music, and dazzling visual entertainment. The best part? Admission and parking are always free, making this the ultimate affordable family weekend in the Smokies.

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect during this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

New This Year: Freedom in Motion Wheel Light Show

As night falls over the mountains, look up to see the centerpiece of our celebration. We are debuting Freedom in Motion, an all-new patriotic light show on The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. Following our recent $1 million lighting upgrade, the iconic Wheel will come alive with stunning, dynamic LED displays, including a scrolling "USA" tribute and a majestic eagle in flight.

Spirit of America Fountain Shows

Need a spot to cool down between shopping and riding? Head over to the courtyard to catch the Island Show Fountain's Spirit of America performance. Running throughout the day, this spectacular display choreographs water, light, and music to classic anthems like "American Girl" and "God Bless the USA."

Non-Stop Family Fun All Weekend Long

The excitement does not stop with our light and fountain shows. We have lined up activities and entertainment for guests of all ages from Friday through Sunday:

• Kids' Craft Tent: Bring the little ones by to create their own free, patriotic holiday crafts to take home.

• USA 250 Photo Spot: Snap a family picture at our brand-new commemorative photo backdrop designed specifically to capture your 250th anniversary memories.

• Live Music: Head over to the Ole Smoky stage every evening starting at 8 PM for live musical performances.

• Exclusive Merchandise: Stop by our Island shops to grab limited-edition 250th anniversary souvenirs and specialty items before they sell out.
