The Island to Host Tree Lighting Celebration in Pigeon Forge
First Annual Event to Feature Celebrity Guest, Paula Deen
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (November 19, 2015) — The Island in Pigeon Forge, a 23-acre entertainment destination located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, has announced it will kick off the holiday season by hosting its annual Tree Lighting Celebration on Saturday, November 28, 2015.
Joining this year’s ceremony are Paula Deen, who will light the 35-foot Christmas tree, and her husband, Michael Groover. Since opening her new restaurant, Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen, in April, Deen has spent extensive time in the Pigeon Forge area and has become a part of the community at The Island.
“Our area celebrates the Christmas season in a big way, and we wanted to make sure this year’s event created lasting memories for guests and their families,” said David Wear, vice president of operations for The Island in Pigeon Forge “Having Paula here is an added bonus to what is already going to be a fun celebration of the Winterfest season for our guests.”
Expected to be the largest ceremony in The Island’s history, this year’s event, which kicks off at 6:00 pm, will feature live performances from the 60-member Celebration Choir of First Baptist Sevierville and a special Christmas production from the $3.5 million Island Show Fountain, choreographed to lights and holiday music. Guests and their families will also be able to have pictures made with Santa and a life-size snow globe, enjoy live entertainment, as well as experience a number of other surprise festivities.
During the ceremony, The Island in Pigeon Forge will also be presenting the Boys and Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains with a donation to be used towards building the non-profit’s new facility in Pigeon Forge.
“We are in the business of creating memories for adults and kids alike,” said Bob McManus, president of The Island in Pigeon Forge. “Our values align with those of the Boys and Girls Club, and we are glad to continue supporting the children of our community through this organization.”
With free parking and no admission cost, Guests can attend the event and are welcome to arrive before festivities begin to explore the shops, dining and entertainment available at The Island in Pigeon Forge.
